Zoloft Warnings
Like any other drugs, Zoloft—brand name for Setraline—side effects manifest themselves upon taking it as reported its patients. There are minor ones and in some extreme cases, life-threatening side effects occur.  A study of scientists at the University of California-Irvine said that during pregnancy, a fetus can sense its mother’s depression. This is just an incident of the many untoward side effects of the drug based on the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Public Health Advisory.

Pfizer, a pharmaceutical company,  introduced Zoloft to the market in December 1992.  Zoloft is an anti-depressant medicine which is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor(SSRI). This means that Zoloft balances serotonin which is a neurotransmitter that influences certain moods of people. Zoloft is for the treatment of depression, panic and anxiety disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders and premenstrual disorders.

However, extensive controversies exists that question whether SSRIs, such as Zoloft, can cause patients to be more violent and suicidal instead.

Zoloft Side Effects in Varying Degrees

Zoloft has been indicated to cause hazardous side effects and withdrawal symptoms. This is according to the clinical test procedures done by the FDA plus reports from Zoloft users.

The most commonly encountered Zoloft side effects are drowsiness, weakness, diarrhea and constipation. There are also side effects involving agitation, impulsiveness, nervousness, nausea, decreased libido, erectile dysfunction, and ejaculatory delay.

Some of these side effects are generally minor that medical attention is rarely needed. On the other hand, the drug has also serious side effects that requires you to act on it immediately. Zoloft patients should report to their physicians and healthcare providers if they experience the following:

•         Tremors

•         Allergic reaction

•         Seizures

•         Balance or coordination problems

•         Abnormal heart rate

•         Breathing difficulties

•         Eating difficulties

•         Fainting

•         Memory problems

•         Confusions

•         Hallucinations

•         Personality changes

•         Suicidal thoughts

Medical and Health Notices from Food and Drug Administration (FDA)

With this, in March 2004, the FDA has mandated numerous label changes for Zoloft due to the general outcome of various research studies showing the aforementioned side effects.

Additionally, FDA also made a Public Health Advisory that stated further warnings to doctors and patients about Zoloft’s tendency to increase occurrence of suicides and risks of birth defects.

Allegedly, these warnings and clinical findings were already too late especially for the consumers affected by Zoloft.

Hence, if you have any doubts, concerns or inquiries about your Zoloft intake, immediately report to your doctor or healthcare expert. Zoloft manufacturer, Pfizer, actually faces a number of Zoloft Lawsuit. The lawsuits filed contained allegations that the company has been fully-aware of the negative side effects of the drug yet they still continued selling it. So aside from medical attention, you should also seek legal advice to know about qualifications for a compensation from Zoloft manufacturer.
